Attendance

At Bourne Grammar School we take attendance and punctuality very seriously, and we do so for obvious – but not always recognised – reasons.  Firstly, there is a proven relationship between high attendance and high attainment.  The higher your attendance, the more likely you are to achieve higher results; Government research continues to illustrate this correlation.

Secondly, there is a clear link between attendance and well-being.  High attendance is “essential for pupils to get the most out of their school experience, including their attainment, wellbeing, and wider life chances”.  We prioritise the well-being of our students, and do not underestimate the role of attendance in that broader picture.

Finally, as we tell our students, when it comes to commitments in both the personal and professional spheres, there are few more important and underrated qualities than the simple act of turning up.  A healthy relationship with attendance at school embeds the habits, commitment, and resilience that will serve our students for the rest of their days.

In accordance with the School’s desire to promote the highest standards, punctuality is tracked and students may be required to make up for time lost to lateness.  A full outline of the School’s approach to attendance and punctuality can be found in our Attendance policy.
