Equality Statement
Bourne Grammar School is committed to the promotion of equality within all School policies and activities.
The School seeks to build a community based on tolerance and respect for diversity and aims to meet its obligations under the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) by having due regard for the need to:
- Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act 2010;
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it;
- Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
Equality Objectives
Bourne Grammar School's Equality Objectives have been created through gathering and analysing information focused on workforce and student equality.
Objective 1:
Devise and implement effective systems to monitor and analyse equality, diversity and inclusion data relating to protected characteristics to advance equality of opportunity in areas such as recruitment, continuing professional development, and student access to trips, visits and other extra-curricular activities.
Objective 2:
Further enhance our curriculum and enrichment programme across Years 7-13 to help ensure that all students can thrive together, understanding that difference is a positive, not a negative, and that individual characteristics make people unique. This includes, but is not limited to, students contributing to an atmosphere that values and celebrates various cultures and religious beliefs, through promoting understanding of the protected characteristics, how equality and diversity are promoted, and how to tackle discrimination.
Objective 3:
To develop a programme of equality and inclusion training - including awareness of cultural and cognitive diversity - across all staff and trustees to ensure policy and practice reflect the aims of the Public Sector Equality Duty.
