Year 8 Rewards Trip

Written by Edie Austin, Peggy Larter, Ffion Jones and Tillie Phillips

We were really excited to go on the Forest Facility trip, and had been looking forward to it for ages! The first thing that we did was get on the bus, the bus was very fun. We all sat with our friends and had a fun time singing! (I’m not sure our teachers had as much fun!)

When we started to get closer to the facility everyone started to get really excited because we could see how good it looked from the window. When we get there each form group got a safety briefing and a plan for the day so everyone understood what they had to do. We all got given different colour wristbands so we knew which group we were as there were over 200 students.

The first activity our form did was the assault course. Although it was hot we were raring to go so we ran at the start to our first obstacle which was climbing over walls. Then there were hills that you ran up and down. This was followed by going through a little forest pathway which got two more obstacles then we climbed through old cars and caravans there was a massive climbing tower obstacle which we had to go up and down. We worked really well as a team and helped each other (consistently with giggles along the way) which we quickly had to go through before running through the finish line celebrating. Then there was a pool of water that you could slide or run into (which our friends fell into). Because it was a hot day this cooled us down so did the delicious cold ice cream that we had at lunch (some of us had an ice lolly and some had an ice cream – the sprinkles were really tasty!)

After lunch we were back on different activities. It was so funny to see all the teachers going over obstacles and some went down the zip line.

The next thing we did was axe throwing which was harder than it looked, but there was a couple who managed to hit the bulls eye. If we struggled the leader from Forest Facility gave us some tips. It was really funny because one of our classmates threw it completely over the target. Luckily there was a massive net behind so no one got hurt.  We then did archery where we used a bow and arrows, where we had more success hitting the targets.

The last activity was our favourite (although it was hard to choose). We did laser tag where we got split into two teams and we had face paint that we could put on according to our team colour. We had guns which shot lasers at the other team and we had to capture the other team’s flag without getting shot. When we were shot, we would have to go back to our base and ‘respawn.’ This was really fun because it meant that we could work together and improve our teamwork skills!

Overall, this experience was really fun. It was a hot day and we could enjoy the sun with our friends whilst doing activities that we’ve never experienced before!

Thankyou you to Mr Graves and Mrs Evans for organising the trip and all our form tutors and other teachers that came on the trip and helped us… we really appreciate it! Thank you also to everyone at Forest Facility for looking after us, and Jimmy Ices for the yummy ice creams.
