Teaching Vacancies:

Teacher of Law with Humanities (MPS/UPS)

At present, we have a vacancy for a Law teacher.  The successful candidate will be required to teach Geography, History, Politics or Religious Education in conjunction with their Law teaching.

Applications are invited to join a popular and thriving Law department at the school, with excellent links to local courts and practitioners. Law is currently offered as an A-level for Sixth Form students, following the AQA specifications with a focus on Criminal Law, Law of Tort and Contract Law, together with some teaching of the Nature of Law, Concepts of Law and the English Legal System. With high academic expectations and a very positive learning culture between students and staff – one in which students enjoy their learning - we are looking for a practitioner who can bring energy, enthusiasm and a “can do” attitude to this field; a person who will work very hard on lessons to motivate and inspire the students. While we value experience, we also value personal drive, initiative and a willingness to learn quickly on the job.

To apply for this role, please complete an application form and return it to Ms Hill via [email protected] before 12:00 on Wednesday 17 April 2024.

Subject Leader of Computer Science (MPS/UPS + BGS allowance £5312.00)

We are seeking to appoint a Subject Leader of Computer Science to lead a successful and forward-looking department which benefits from high-quality accommodation, refurbished in 2021. There are four Computer Science rooms; each well appointed with over 30 computers which are upgraded regularly.  All are air-conditioned to provide a pleasant environment for teaching.  Nearby is a newly refurbished, comfortable staff room which includes workspaces for teachers as well as fridges and tea/coffee-making facilities.

The staff are dedicated professionals, committed to raising standards and improving still further the quality of teaching and learning. Computer Science teachers are ably supported by three full-time, experienced support engineers in the IT Support department.

Students receive three one-hour Computer Science lessons per fortnight in Year 7, then two hours per fortnight in years 8 and 9. Students choosing to study the subject at GCSE have five hours per fortnight and those studying the A-Level have nine hours per fortnight.

The examination results at both GCSE and A-Level have consistently been very good compared to the national picture. GCSE students follow the Edexcel Computer Science (1CP2), sitting exams in June of Year 11. Student numbers are good: There are presently 42 students taking Computer Science at GCSE in Year 10 and 45 students in Year 11 – two classes in each year.

A-Level students follow the AQA Computer Science specification (7517). There are presently 19 students divided among two groups in Year 12 and one group of 23 students in Year 13.

The well-established departmental curriculum can be viewed online at http://www.bournetocodebeta.com/
